What Are MSC-NPs And How Are They Used?
MSC-NPs are a population of autologous (self) cells taken from the patient’s own bone marrow that have the potential to repair the damage to the nerves of your brain and spinal cord caused by MS. MSC-NPs (mesenchymal stem cell neural progenitors) are derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that are expanded and manipulated in the laboratory to make them into neural (brain) progenitor cells. These cells are then injected back into the patient’s cerebrospinal fluid (intrathecal) where they act to promote brain repair and regeneration of the central nervous system in multiple sclerosis. Treatment consists of multiple doses of MSC-NPs administered 2-3 months apart.
